PURPLE RHYMES WITH ORANGE
Orange was feeling lonely one day, he could not find anyone with which to play. Not a person place or thing fit perfect with he, the songs he sang had no harmony.
He thought and thought until he knew what to do. He would search for is soul mate no matter what color, tint, shade or hue.
To find his true love ORANGE must embark on whimsical and thought-provoking adventure to fill his TABULA RASA (empty slate) with people places and things.
On this journey ORANGE meets YELLOW a “beach granny” , BROWN a punny lumberjack , RED who lacks the ability to rhyme , BLACK an ad man, WHITE a Broadway diva , NEON LEON an 80's Thigh Master, GREEN, a materialistic snotty girl, and finally PURPLE his soul mate.
As ORANGE travels on his fun, comedic, and sometimes meaningful and dramatic escapade he realizes that the lessons he is learning will lead him to a greater understanding of the diversity of is community and give him a greater appreciation for his true love PURPLE.
If your looking for a comforter you can find them all around
To fill your slate with diversity, lay your blanket on the ground
Patch your life together with joy and the prism you will have built
Will make room for everyone to share your welcoming quilt
Orange has given up on life has made a choice to sit alone as he opines about being empty. In a separate space PURPLE understands his plight and decides to help ORANGE. PURPLE begins to knit and sew something as she reaches out via the vibe of social media They agree that they need to get started because it will take time, so ORANGE sets out to find his rhyme
PURPLE puts on a simple “disguise” and meets up with Orange. She introduces him to the concept of “Tabula Rasa” (empty slate). PURPLE explains to meet his soul mate no matter color tint shade or hue he must first fill his life with perspective, experiences, people, and energy. He tells her he threw his boomerang and it never came back.
She gives him an empty satchel to deliver to a friend. ORANGE does not understand but PURPLE reassures him “you will the at the end.” ORANGE is encouraged and embarks on his adventure.
His bag is empty he needs some teachers to teach
Its sunrise, daybreak, time to head to the beach
ORANGE meets YELLOW
ORANGE travels to the beach where he meets Yellow Carmello, a sassy overly tanned leathery skinned grandma. YELLOW teaches ORANGE to “always look on the bright side of life” and that he does not need to be a “one man band” YELLOW reenforces the tabula rasa lesson and gives him a gift/clue/ piece of the puzzle to put in his bag. ORANGE does not understand but she tells him
“Take this light and remember what you now know
Put it this in your bag, but remember to let your light shine in so it can grow “
So he headed to the forest where everything grows
to the top of your head from the twinkle in your toe
ORANGE meets BROWN
ORANGE goes to the forest where he meets BROWN, a punny lumberjack/Mountie. They discuss ORANGE’s need for a soul mate. BROWN has also been looking for someone solid as he checks his dating app “Timber”. BROWN gives ORANGE some advice and another clue to put in put in his bag. “Tabula Rasa take this seed as you slog, build a home in your heart, stack your Lincoln logs.
I am proud of Orange he is beginning to flourish
and I am convinced tabula rasa is not just nature it needs to be nourished
ORANGE meets RED
ORANGE stumbles upon RED, a “R.eally E.xciting D.ude” oddly named Eugene who is on a “pinata prize quest” He lacks the ability to rhyme and ORANGE tries to help him to no avail. Have you been paying attention all the time? This show is about finding my match and lots of rhymes.” RED proclaims that when he was whacking his pinata something fell out. He gives it to ORANGE as another clue. RED is energetic bold but did not quite learn is rhyming lesson.
“Tabula Rasa ,I will help you with your luck, I will blast the siren on my fire….engine
RED was very determined, energetic and strong but perhaps he was left on the paint mix machine to long
Times square will get ORANGE back on his feet
Black and White entered stage right made the scene
now Orange had a front row seat
ORANGE meets BLACK and WHITE
ORANGE travels to the bright lights of time square and runs into WHITE, an over enthusiastic Broadway diva and BLACK, a cheesy AD man. ORANGE explains his plight and WHITE says that “theater is the place to meet your leading lady” as BLACK implores him to make a commercial. WHITE’s advice is to “fill your resume with talent and class, an actress will pick you as her leading man, you will be cast.”
BLACK remarks “Tabula Rasa, fix your game up sell like you should,
Like a big bowl of soup, you will be mm mm good.” They each give ORANGE souvenirs/clues to put in his bag
They bicker with each other and ORANGE realizes that the big city is too theatrical and not very practical.
Orange lost focus flew off in a lark
but let’s not give up although it seems dark
Orange still needs a chum, a pal, a partner to ignite that special spark
YELLOW gets BROWN, RED, BLACK and WHITE together to make sure they have been giving their advice and clues to ORANGE to make him worthy of his true love and lead him to PURPLE. The colors stay consistent with their silly characters and even though they have done their work they are still pretty self-involved, They assure YELLOW that they have performed their duties and are willing to help in any way they can.
ORANGE meets LEON LEON
ORANGE gets the notion that maybe he needs some muscle to impress a girl and win her hand. He meets NEON LEON a dunderhead throwback to the 80’s. NEON encourages ORANGE to “blast your quads and rock your pecs too”, and he gives him another clue.
“Fuel your body with goodness and if you fill your empty slate
I bet you could even get a hot date”
Look out for #1 number, remember the golden rule
Buy her some stuff so she thinks your cool
ORANGE buys into the idea and makes a bad assumption
“Gotta get rich, pump up my ego
Cold hard cash will get me where I need to go”
He is collecting his seeds learning what he needs to know
Getting ready to plant them so they can grow
ORANGE meets GREEN
ORANGE is convinced that material goods and money will attract a soul mate, but realizes he is pretty much broke. PURPLE sees an opportunity to comfort him but GREEN an “influencer” bursts in and overwhelms ORANGE with her selfishness and greed.
Ya, I am a silly willy dilly bar .
Money and fame make me a star
I will show you how I have a ball
gimme more , gimme more , gimme more… then give me all
ORANGE becomes upset with her attitude and obnoxious behavior and the argue.
Before she cashes GREEN reluctantly leaves ORANGE with another clue to put in his bag
ORANGE meets PURPLE
ORANGE is distraught and is ready to give up
“My soul is bankrupt I think I gave it my best
My heart no longer beats in my empty treasure chest”
He looks in the water and asks his reflection.
Which way should I go in what direction?
Then he sees two images in the lake and PURPLE says for goodness sake.
PURPLE explains to ORANGE that he is asking the right questions but needs to listen.
PURPLE gives him his boomerang that he thought would never come back.
All the colors help set a wedding/commitment ceremony and they say their vows.
PURPLE thanks everyone and the colors individually make a promise to support them
ORANGE puts his clues together
I was looking for comfort and you all came around
Helped me patch my life together with joy and a life we have built
You filled my slate with your love, gave me clues to be found
I will make room for everyone to share my quilt
